The security system at Boalmari Upazila Health Complex in Faridpur district has collapsed severely. Instead of the authorized three night guards, only one night guard is currently responsible for the night security of the entire complex. This has put the security of the hospital at risk.
It is learned that for a long time, the main gate of the hospital was kept closed at night for security reasons. But recently, the gate was suddenly reopened. This allows people to freely enter and exit the hospital area at night. As a result, concerns have arisen about security among hospital employees, patients, and especially female patients.
A relative of a patient admitted to the hospital at night said, “The hospital gate is open at night. Many people come from outside and leave again. How can a night guard alone provide security in such a large place?”
A hospital employee, who did not wish to be named, said, “Although there is approval for three night guards, two are not being kept on duty. One is being made to work the entire night, which is inhumane and risky. This not only puts safety but also the employee’s own life in danger.”
Local residents and service recipients have complained that some individuals or groups are getting benefits by keeping the gate open. According to them, keeping the gate open without the knowledge or permission of the administration and reducing the security personnel is irresponsible.
When asked about this, Upazila Health and Family Planning Officer (UHFPO) Dr. [Name may be replaced if significant] said, “The matter has come to our attention. We are investigating why one night guard is being put on duty. If necessary, additional manpower will be recruited or duties will be rearranged.”
However, local conscious circles believe that the weakening of the security system in important government institutions like the Upazila Health Complex is a reflection of administrative failure and lack of supervision. They have demanded that appropriate action be taken by identifying those responsible through a speedy investigation.
