The Border Guard Bangladesh (BGB) has apprehended a man named Nabi Hossain (28) in the border area of Ukhia, Cox’s Bazar, with 50,000 Yaba tablets. The operation was conducted early Friday morning (October 16) by a special patrol team from the Palongkhali Border Outpost (BOP) of the Ukhia Battalion (64 BGB).

The detainee, Nabi Hossain, is a resident of Block A, FDMN Camp-16 in Ukhia, and is the son of Md. Kashem.

Lieutenant Colonel Md. Zahirul Islam, Commanding Officer of the 64 BGB, confirmed the operation and the arrest.

According to BGB sources, acting on intelligence, a special patrol team from the Palongkhali BOP conducted an operation in the designated border area around 5:20 AM on Friday. The patrol team grew suspicious upon spotting an individual entering from the direction of Myanmar, walking along an embankment south of Saidul Bashar’s enclosure, carrying a bundle wrapped in a gamchha (traditional cloth).

When challenged by the BGB personnel, the man attempted to flee, but was pursued and apprehended by the team. A search of the bundle revealed 50,000 Yaba tablets, packed in khaki-colored wrapping and contained within five blue-colored cartons.

During initial questioning, the detainee admitted that he had procured the Yaba tablets from the Myanmar border and was transporting them with the intent to sell them for a higher price.

Lieutenant Colonel Md. Zahirul Islam, Commanding Officer of the 64 BGB, stated that intelligence surveillance has been intensified to identify and bring to justice those involved in drug supply and smuggling. The BGB will continue its operations to ensure border security and prevent smuggling and drug trafficking.
