Two brothers were brutally hacked and beaten to death in Utholi village of Jibannagar upazila of Chuadanga district due to a previous dispute. This incident took place on Saturday (September 20) morning at the bridge field of Utholi village of Jibannagar upazila. The deceased two brothers are Anwar Hossain Minta (65) and Md. Hamza (45). They are the sons of the deceased Khude Mandal of Boro Masjidpara of that village.
Meanwhile, Jibannagar police reached the spot after receiving the information. Additional police have been deployed to control the situation. Local and family sources said that Minta and Hamza went to the bridge field in the morning for their agricultural work. At that time, 8-10 miscreants lurking from the east attacked them suddenly.
The attackers, armed with country-made weapons and sticks, hacked and beat the two brothers and fled after seriously injuring them. Md. Hamza died on the spot. Meanwhile, locals rescued Minta in a bloody state and admitted him to Chuadanga Sadar Hospital. However, he also died around 10 am while undergoing treatment.
The deceased’s elder brother Tota Mia alleged, “Last April, a man named Nizamuddin Khoka promised to buy us a cow. But when we did not pay within the stipulated time, we sold the cow.
Since then, Khoka and his people have been threatening us. Hamza Bhai was hacked once before, when he had to be admitted to Jessore. A case is pending in court in that incident.” He further said, “This time, they beat and hacked my two brothers to death because of that dispute.
We had already reported the matter to the police, but nothing happened. My brothers are no longer alive today.’ Aklima Khatun, the wife of the deceased Minta, said, ‘Nizamuddin Khoka and his two sons came to our house with big knives and said, ‘We have killed two brothers, you go and bring their bodies.’
They killed us openly and came to our house and threatened us, and they told us about the murder by bragging.’ Dr. Wahed Mahmud Robin, the doctor on duty at the emergency department of Sadar Hospital, said, ‘Anwar Hossain Minta came to the emergency department in a bloody and critical condition.
He was admitted with immediate treatment. However, he died within a few minutes. In addition, Md. Hamza was found dead in the emergency department. He died before being taken to the hospital. Hamza’s body had injury marks.’
In this regard, Jibannagar Police Station Officer-in-Charge (OC) Manun Hossain said, ‘We reached the spot immediately after receiving the news. The attackers fled immediately after the incident. Additional police have been deployed in the area. Now the situation is under control. A drive is underway to arrest those involved. The bodies of the two deceased brothers are currently at the morgue of Chuadanga Sadar Hospital.’
Meanwhile, the brutal murder of the two brothers has cast a shadow of grief over the village of Utholi. Local residents are in fear of the open attack by the opponent. They are demanding the intervention of the administration and speedy trial to prevent any further violence in the area.
