A mother and son from Baniachong were tragically killed in a bus crash in front of Dinarpur College in Nabiganj upazila on the Dhaka-Sylhet highway. The incident occurred on the afternoon of September 17 (Wednesday). The deceased mother and son are residents of Sagardighi West Par Mohalla, Ward No. 7 of South West Union No. 4 of Baniachong Upazila Sadar, Habiganj district.
Local sources at the scene and the acting chairman of South West Union No. 4 of Baniachong, Mahfuzur Rahman Mamun Mia expressed their condolences over the tragic death and said that as soon as they learned about the news of the death, they learned from other family members that the deceased wife Shamima Akhter (45) and her son Taki (4) were killed by their husband Syed Ali Mia from their home in the morning, going to a relative’s house in Dinarpur village of Nabiganj upazila.
And while crossing the road at the scene, a Saudia Paribahan passenger bus suddenly ran over them and they died on the spot. When the news of their death spread in Baniachang, a shadow of grief fell.

Several more people were injured at that time. The fatal bus fell into a ditch on the side of the road. Immediately after the accident, traffic on the highway was stopped and a long traffic jam was created.
Meanwhile, upon receiving the news, the Goplar Bazar police of Nabiganj police station and Sherpur Highway police quickly reached the spot and recovered the bodies. And normalized traffic.
In this regard, Abu Taher Dewan of Sherpur Highway Police Station (OC) said that the fatal bus was seized after the accident. However, the driver and assistant fled after the incident. Efforts are underway to arrest them.
After this accident, locals claim that such accidents have often happened on the road in front of Dinarpur College. They have been demanding the installation of a zebra crossing and speed bumps here for a long time, but no one has implemented it yet. As a result, pedestrians are constantly becoming victims of such accidents.
