Madan (Netrakona) Correspondent:
State Minister for Fisheries and Livestock Sultan Salahuddin Tuku said, “The Awami League government could not remain in power despite carrying out mass disappearances, murders and torture. They were forced to flee from power in the face of public anger. Now the people of the country have regained their voting rights and ownership.”
He said these things as the chief guest at a road meeting organized on the occasion of the inauguration of the fish release program in the Haor at the Khantpur Trawler Ghat area of Madan Upazila of Netrakona on Friday (July 3) afternoon.
The State Minister also said, “May Allah’s mercy be upon them, the world’s mercy. They have met this fate because of irregularities, oppression and corruption.”
Addressing the BNP leaders and activists, he said, “It is not okay to behave like them. The country is moving forward under the leadership of Tarique Rahman. Everyone should cooperate with him with justice and honesty.”
In his opening speech at the event, local MP and former State Minister for Home Affairs Lutfuzzaman Babar said that the two main sources of livelihood for most people in the Madan-Mohanganj-Khaliajuri constituency are Boro rice production and fish harvesting. This year, heavy rains and hill floods have caused extensive damage to the Boro crop. At the same time, the livelihood of people has also been reduced in this fish-rich region as the availability of fish has decreased compared to the past. For this reason, fry are being released on a large scale in the water bodies of the haor to increase the production of indigenous fish species.
He urged the people present and said that if the released fry are given the opportunity to grow, fish production in the haor will increase in the future and the livelihood of the local people will be further enriched.
Present as special guests at the event were State Minister for Railways and Road Transport and Highways Habibur Rashid, Secretary of the Ministry of Fisheries and Livestock Md. Delwar Hossain, Fisheries Acting Director General of the Department Dr. Md. Khaled Kanak and Madan Upazila Executive Officer Nadir Hossain Shamim and Upazila Agriculture Officer Md. Mahmudur Rahman Mizan, Upazila Ansar Officer Pranotosh Ghosh, Upazila Fisheries Officer Md. Kamrul Hasan, Upazila Engineer S. M. Shahadat Hossain.
The meeting was presided over by Upazila BNP President Nurul Alam Talukder, and moderated by Madan Municipal BNP President Mr. Kamruzzaman Chandan, Municipal BNP General Secretary Abdul Qadir, and Madan Upazila BNP General Secretary Md. Rafiqul Islam Akand.
Incidentally, about 16 metric tons of fry of various indigenous species were released at five places in Madan-Mohanganj-Khaliajuri parliamentary constituency under the personal financing of local MP Lutfuzzaman Babar and additional allocation from ADP.
