A sensational piece of information about technology-based drug dealing has come to light in Kaliakair Upazila of Gazipur. Local sources have revealed that ‘Yaba Anwar’, known as a notorious drug dealer from Ratanpur area of the upazila, had been operating a drug business for a long time by installing drones and CCTV cameras to monitor the entire area.
Sources said that Anwar used modern technology in his surroundings to keep an eye on the movements of law enforcement agencies and suspicious movements. He practically built a ‘digital network’ by monitoring from the air through drones and installing CCTV cameras in important places in his house and surroundings.
Locals allege that by misusing technology in this way, he had been running a business of various drugs including Yaba for a long time, which has created an atmosphere of fear and panic in the area. Conscious circles believe that using technology as a tool of crime is a new type of threat, which needs to be countered quickly.
Locals have demanded that the administration take necessary measures in this regard and intensify strict operations against drug dealers.
