Body of female BRAC officer recovered from rented house in Manirampur

Police have recovered the body of a BRAC official named Varna Khatun (35) from the ground floor of a rented house of Ganesh Chandra Das in Shyamkur village of Manirampur upazila of Jessore. On Friday (November 7) night, locals spotted her body and informed the Manirampur police. The police reached the spot and recovered the body.

The deceased Varna Khatun was working as the manager of BRAC’s Bashdah branch in Satkhira Sadar upazila. She is the daughter of the late Abul Kalam Munshi of Char Andar Manik village of Goalanda police station in Rajbari district.

According to local sources, Varna Khatun’s husband Mehedi Hasan Tapu runs a pesticide shop in front of the Mainabari School in Shyamkur union. It has been alleged that Tapu used to extort money from his wife on various pretexts since their marriage.

Abdur Razzak, the deceased’s brother, alleged, “Tapu had been torturing my sister for a long time. In the end, she was tortured and killed.”
According to family sources, both Warna Khatun and Mehedi Hasan Tapu were in their second marriage. They have a one-and-a-half-year-old daughter.

Police Inspector (Investigation) of Manirampur Police Station Md. Badruzzaman Molly said, “The body has been recovered and sent to the Jessore General Hospital morgue for an autopsy. An investigation is underway to find out the exact cause of death.”
