Protests over Aslam Chowdhury’s denial of nomination in Sitakunda, highways and railways blocked

BNP and its affiliated organizations have blocked the Dhaka-Chittagong highway and railway tracks at various places in Sitakunda, Chittagong, in protest against the non-nomination of BNP Chairperson’s advisor and former Joint Secretary General Professor Lion Mohammad Aslam Chowdhury FCA as a candidate for the upcoming 13th National Parliament election in the Chittagong-4 Sitakunda (Akbarshah-Pahartoli Partial) constituency.

On Monday (November 3), Mirza Fakhrul Islam Alamgir announced his candidacy for the parliamentary election from the BNP Chairperson’s office in Gulshan, the capital.

Bangladesh Nationalist Party BNP nominated Kazi Mohammad Salauddin, joint convener of Chittagong North District BNP, for this constituency. Since the announcement, the party’s leaders and activists have been furious. Everyone quickly came out on the streets and blocked the highways to protest.

Around 7 pm, BNP and its affiliated organizations blocked highways and railway tracks at various places along a 39-kilometer stretch from Baradarogahat to City Gate in the upazila and protested. Thousands of vehicles and passengers were stranded on both sides of the highway as a result of the blockade. Meanwhile, thousands of passengers have also suffered due to the blockade of the railway tracks.
