Three robbers have been arrested while robbing a passenger auto van in Pirganj, Rangpur. The injured auto van driver has been admitted to the hospital in the attack by the robbers. The police have handed over the three robbers to the learned court. The confessional statements of two people have been recorded.
A press release sent to the media from the media cell of the Rangpur District Police on Thursday, October 22 said that on October 21, at around 7:30 pm, Rashedul Mia (29), son of the deceased Miajan Mia of Kazirpara village, No. 10, Shanerhat UP, Pirganj upazila, Rangpur district, was waiting for a passenger in a battery-powered auto van when seven robbers, who were passengers, rented the auto van for 140 taka and set off for Baradargah Bazar.
Later, as soon as they reached an empty road on the Dhaka-Rangpur highway, approximately 100 yards south of the Baradargah overbridge in Jibanandpur mouza of the upazila, 100 yards north of the Lucky LPG filling station,
Two of the seven people ambushed the van driver Rashedul to take control of the van. The other hit the van driver on the hand with a sharp knife. The van driver’s hand was cut and bloody.
At that time, the van driver pushed the autovan against the railing of the bridge to save his life and started screaming. Hearing his screams, people around him including the pond guard Arif Mia came and arrested 3 people, but the others escaped. Later, the arrested accused were thrashed. On receiving the news, the Pirganj Police Station and Baradargah Highway Police Station police arrived and took the arrested persons into custody.
In this incident, Rashedul Mia has filed a case with Pirganj Police Station accusing 2/3 other unidentified people along with the 7 mentioned people. The arrested are Aminul Islam’s son Rakib Mia (28), Yusuf Mia’s son Raihan Mia (30) and Akbar Hossain’s son Swapan Mia (40) of Sahapara Hajipur village under Pirganj Police Station of Rangpur district. The others are absconding.
Pirganj Police Station questioned the arrested accused in front of the locals about their names and addresses and confessed to revealing their names and addresses and robbing the autovan. The police seized the autovan and admitted the victim and the accused to the Pirganj Upazila Health Complex for treatment in their injured condition. Later, after the victim Rashedul Mia recovered somewhat, he himself became the plaintiff and filed a written complaint with Pirganj Police Station against the above accused and the absconding unidentified 2/3 people along with the absconding accused.
Pirganj Police Station Case No. 31, Date-22/10/25 AD. Section-395/398 Penal Code Case was registered. The arrested accused were sent to the learned court. Accused Rakib and Raihan Mia have given confessional statement under Section 164 of the Penal Code in the learned court.
