Nalchiti (Jhalakathi) Representative:

A public library has been established in the Mollarhat Union Parishad Complex of Nalchiti Upazila of Jhalakathi district as a center for learning in a better environment for students and job seekers of educational institutions and as a center for knowledge cultivation for the local people.

The library, established in the name of Jibanananda Das, a son of Jhalakathi and one of the greatest poets of Bangladesh, was inaugurated on Monday afternoon by UNO of Nalchiti Upazila Lovely Yasmin.

Speaking as the chief guest at a discussion program titled ‘Role of Libraries in Nation Building’ organized at the Union Parishad after the inauguration, Lovely Yasmin said that a nation that is ahead in knowledge and science is developed and prosperous. There is no alternative to libraries as a center for knowledge cultivation. If the young society is book-oriented, the social problems of the country will be greatly reduced and a knowledge-based society will be developed.

At this time, she sincerely thanked the union administrator and Upazila Family Planning Officer Md. Al Amin Molya and others concerned for establishing the library.

In his speech, Mollarhat Union Parishad Administrator and founder of this library, Md. Al Amin Molya, said that Mollarhat Union has four secondary schools and one college. Most of the students of these educational institutions do not have a good study environment. Besides, many do not get a study environment to compete in the job market. Keeping these issues in mind, this library has been established from a part of the Union Parishad’s allocation.

The administrator further said that the library has a collection of about a thousand books on Bengali literature and various subjects. These books can be read by coming to the library, but cannot be taken with a biro. However, books can be brought from outside and read here. Ten students can study at a time.

Upazila Agriculture Officer Mostafizur Rahman, Livestock Officer Abu Saleh Md. Ifad Ishtiaq, Additional Agriculture Officer Habibur Rahman, Bhairabpasha Union Administrator and Agricultural Extension Officer Md. Ahidul Islam, Kulkathi Union Administrator and Rural Development Officer Obaidul Islam, among others, were also present at the discussion meeting.
