Students from seven colleges in Dhaka stay near DU

Hundreds of students from seven government colleges formerly affiliated with Dhaka University protested in front of the Education Building today (October 13, 2025) around noon. They are demanding the immediate issuance of an ordinance to establish the proposed “Dhaka Central University”.

The students said, “We have been in uncertainty about our education and future for a long time. If the seven colleges merge and become a university, the quality of our education will improve further and the recognition of our certificates will be ensured.”

During the protest, the students reiterated their demands to the government with banners, placards and slogans. They demanded that the long-standing uncertainty of the students should be removed by issuing an ordinance quickly. Police and security forces were present in the area to ensure the peaceful sit-in program of the students. As the students’ sit-in program is ongoing, there has been some traffic congestion on the adjacent roads.

The photo was taken around noon today, where the students are gathering together demanding the issuance of an ordinance and protesting peacefully to ensure the right to education. The students have assured that they will continue their sit-in program until an agreement is reached with the government.
