Tensions rise over land dispute in Boalmari’s Gauripur, Monir Mia claims – I have recovered my own land

A long-standing land dispute has created tension between two families in Gouripur village of Moyna union in Boalmari upazila of Faridpur district. The incident took place on October 10 at around 8 am. According to local sources, Md. Monir Mia (37), son of the deceased Chan Mia Master, went to retrieve his ancestral property and got into a dispute with the other party.

Monir Mia alleged, “This land is our ancestral property. When my father was alive, we used to cultivate this land. But a few years ago, a person named Md. Mamun Mia (35) forcibly occupied the land and made a den for drug addicts there. I could not say anything until now due to fear.

” He further said, “On the morning of October 10, when I went to my own land with the villagers, Mamun Mia and his associates tried to attack us. When we resisted in self-defense, they made false allegations and made up stories of house vandalism and looting. These allegations are completely baseless.”

On the other hand, the accused Mamun Mia claimed, “I own this land by purchase. I bought the land from Chan Mia Master and built a pucca house there. Monir Mia demolished my house and took away the furniture.” Tension prevailed in the area over the incident. Locals said that the matter is a long-standing land dispute and both sides are claiming their ownership.

In this regard, Boalmari Police Station said that no written complaint has been received regarding the incident yet. If a complaint is received, legal action will be taken after investigation.
