In Pirganj, Thakurgaon, clashes broke out between two groups of BNP and its affiliates from Sunday evening to 11 pm. At least 9 people were injured in this. 6 of the injured were given primary treatment at Pirganj Upazila Health Complex and 3 seriously injured were sent to Dinajpur Medical College Hospital. Tension prevailed in the entire area after the clash, the situation is still tense.
According to local sources, the ‘dormant’ state of BNP’s internal party conflict is slightly visible. Most likely, in the continuation of this, arguments started between the supporters of the two parties, and social media also fueled the issue. At one stage, it turned into a clash. Widespread panic spread in the area due to brickbats, sticks and sharp weapons being thrown by both parties. Shops were closed, and the common people rushed to find safe shelter.
According to another source, the clash started over a problem involving women. Upon receiving the news of the clash, the Pirganj police station quickly reached the spot and brought the situation under control. Additional police have been deployed. Law enforcement patrols have been strengthened to prevent any new clashes.
A sub-inspector of Pirganj police station, who did not want to be named, said, “The situation after the clash between the two groups is now under control. Additional police have been deployed in the area and work is underway to identify those involved in the incident.”
The incident has created extreme tension in the political arena in Pirganj. The common people are also afraid that the clash may spread further. Law enforcement is monitoring the situation from a vigilant position.
Currently, patrols have been strengthened in the Pirganj Upazila Sadar and surrounding areas, but the impression of panic is still evident among the people. The local administration said that all necessary measures have been taken to maintain peace and order.
