A bunch of Thai cherry blossom saplings were donated by Mahmudun Nabi Belal, the director of Naogaon Environmental Development Organization, a renowned tree lover, to be planted on the premises of the 250-bed Modern General Hospital in Naogaon. The hospital’s Resident Medical Officer, Dr. Abu Jar Gaffar, received the saplings on the hospital premises on Wednesday (July 29) morning.
Among others, Naogaon Environmental Development Organization Acting President Asaduzzaman Khan Chowdhury, members Abdul Qayyum, Sajib Hossain and hospital officials and employees were present at the time.
Dr. Abu Jar Gaffar said, “Planting such beautiful flowering trees in a crowded and sensitive place like a hospital will give mental peace to patients. This green initiative to protect the environment and make the overall environment of the hospital pleasant is truly commendable.”
Tree lover Mahmudun Nabi Belal said, “We all have to come forward from our respective positions to protect the balance of the environment and face the challenges of climate change. This is our small effort to beautify the hospital premises and give some relief to the minds of the service seekers who come here.”
It is worth noting that tree lover Mahmudun Nabi Belal is a dedicated person in protecting the environment. He has set a unique example across the country by planting numerous palm seeds across an area of about 75 kilometers on both sides of the Naogaon-Rajshahi highway on his own initiative. The palm trees he planted along the highway are now visible and are enhancing the beauty of the environment.
For this extraordinary feat, he has become known as ‘Tal Belal’ among the locals and environmentalists. In addition, he has been regularly planting fruit, forest and medicinal trees in various government and private institutions and educational institutions of the district.
