Md. Roni Ahmed Raju, Magura Correspondent:

Subgrade work is underway under the Magura Project on the road from Amuria Board Office in Kuchiamora Union of Magura Sadar Upazila to Purbapara Math. Those concerned are hoping that the movement of local people will be easier once the development work of the road is completed.

Regarding the ongoing work on Tuesday, August 11 at around 2:30 pm, contractor Sohel Reza said that initially 21 lakh taka has been estimated for the selvage work. However, about 7 lakh taka may be spent additionally to complete the work. Accordingly, he said that the total cost of the selvage work may be about 28 lakh taka.

Contractor Sohel Reza also said that due to lack of sufficient space on the side of the road, it is not possible to place the bricks directly on the side of the road. Due to this, the bricks are being stocked at some distance. Later, those bricks are being broken and mixed with sand for selvage work. He also claimed that the selvage work is being done as per the rules. Bit sand from Kamarkhali and Ghosial areas is being used for the road work. However, the construction work is being disrupted at times due to rainwater accumulation and the movement of horse-drawn carts loaded with jute during the ongoing work, said the concerned.

It is learnt that a total of Tk 1.5 crore has been allocated for three roads under the Magura project. As part of this, subgrade work is currently underway on the road from Amuria Board Office to Purbapara Field. After the subgrade work is completed, WBM and carpeting work will be done on the road in the next phase.

Locals said that the road has been used as an important means of transportation for a long time. They hope that the completion of the development work will reduce the suffering of transportation during the monsoon season as well as facilitate the transportation of agricultural products.

According to the concerned, if the subgrade, WBM and carpeting work are completed according to the prescribed steps, the communication system of the road will be further improved and there will be a positive change in the transportation of local people.

Magura LGED Executive Engineer Anam Wahiduzzaman and Sadar Upazila LGED Engineer Shafin Soheb visited the site and inspected the work.
