A straw house was set on fire late at night in Laskarpur Daspara village of Ward No. 2 of Mohammadpur Union No. 7 of Birganj Upazila of Dinajpur district. The incident has spread panic throughout the area.
The incident took place on Monday (February 23) at around 1 am. According to local sources, someone set fire to the straw house next to the house of Amrit Kumar Das (60), son of the deceased Surendranath Das of Laskarpur Daspara village.
Amrit Kumar Das’s son Aditya Chandra Das (38) told reporters that they fell asleep after dinner as usual. Suddenly, late at night, they heard a noise and came out of the house and saw that the straw house was on fire. When he started screaming, the villagers in the area quickly rushed to the spot. Later, they brought water from the pond next to the house and brought the fire under control.
There was about three kahans of straw in the house, which was completely burnt to ashes. However, major damage was avoided as the fire was quickly extinguished.
