Yasin Al Mridul Dewan and Md. Raihan Khan have been elected as the Vice President (VP) and General Secretary (GS) of the Central Students' Union (GOKSU) of Savar's Gano University. Yasin is a student of the Bangla Department and Raihan is a student of the Veterinary and Animal Sciences Department.
Chief Election Commissioner Md. Rafiqul Alam announced the results of the Central Parliament and Faculty Parliament elections at around 12 am on Friday. Other members of the GOKSU Election Commission were also present at the time.
Analyzing the results, it can be seen that Yasin, who won the VP post, received 692 votes. His nearest rival Md. Abdul Majed Salafi received 677 votes. Raihan Khan received 1,121 votes for the GS post. His nearest rival Md. Antu Dewan received 810 votes. Samiul Hasan Shovon won the AGS post by receiving 1,400 votes. His nearest rival Shifatur Rahman Shishir received 1,239 votes. Khandaker Abdur Rahim won the treasurer post. He received 1,450 votes. His nearest rival candidate Salauddin received 953 votes.
In addition, Faisal Ahmed received 1,477 votes for the sports secretary post, Abdullah Al Noman received 1,307 votes for the associate sports secretary post, Md. Maruf received 2,394 votes for the literary and cultural secretary post, Lisha Chakma received 2,195 votes for the associate literary and cultural secretary post, Sharmin Akhter received 1,108 votes for the office secretary post, Md. Jannatul Ferdous received 1,876 votes for the publicity and publication secretary post, and Md. Monowar Hossain Antar received 1,149 votes for the social welfare and canteen secretary post.
Meanwhile, in the five faculty elections of Goksu, Mohiul Alam Dolan won in the Faculty of Agriculture and Md. Humayun Kabir won in the Faculty of Veterinary and Animal Sciences. In addition, four people were elected unopposed in the Faculty of Arts and Social Sciences. They are - Shakil Ahmed, Md. Selim Ahmed Oli, Md. Mehedi Hasan and Mintuz Akhter Mim. In the Faculty of Science and Engineering, Meherun Khilji Mitu and Md. Imdadul Haque Milon were elected. In the Faculty of Health Sciences, Nasrun Senjuti Aroni and Partha Sarkar won unopposed.
Voting in this election, which was held for the fourth time at the university, continued from Thursday morning to afternoon. Voting was held in 19 booths in 19 centers of the university's academic building. There were 4,672 voters. Of these, 70 percent of the voters cast their votes. After 9 hours of voting, the results of the election were announced after counting. About 400 members of the law enforcement agencies were deployed on the campus to ensure security during the elections.
