Sreepur (Gazipur) Correspondent:
A mobile court has fined the unlicensed Al-Razi Hospital located at the Mauna intersection of the upazila for the death of a newborn due to wrong treatment in Sreepur, Gazipur. At the same time, a time limit of two months has been set for compliance with all the rules.
The drive was conducted at the Mauna intersection on Sunday, December 7 at 3 pm under the leadership of Assistant Commissioner (Land) Saidul Islam. Upazila Health and Family Planning Officer Dr. Shafiqul Islam and a police team were present in the drive. According to the mobile court sources, the fine was imposed under Section 45 of the Consumer Rights Act 2009 due to the hospital not having up-to-date license, environmental clearance and other necessary documents and not having the required number of doctors and nurses. The newborn's father, Nazmul Islam, had earlier filed a complaint with the Sreepur police station on Saturday night.
In the complaint, he said that although there was an agreement to deliver via cesarean section, the hospital authorities took the initiative to perform a normal delivery without the knowledge of the family through nurses and staff. The pregnant woman was kept waiting outside the delivery room from morning to noon, which resulted in the birth of a dead child.
Assistant Commissioner Saidul Islam said that Al-Razi Hospital did not have any valid license or registration and did not have permission to perform delivery or operation. The nurse in charge did not have the necessary qualifications and no doctor was present at the time of the incident.
Upazila Health Officer Dr. Shafiqul Islam said that the hospital authorities have taken two months to issue a bond. If any violation of the rules and regulations is found within this stipulated time, the hospital will be sealed and legal action will be taken.
