Today is the 178th birth anniversary of Mir Mosharraf Hossain, one of the pioneers of Bengali literature, Muslim writer and author of the timeless novel Bishad Sindhu.
Today, Thursday (November 13) morning, the 178th birth anniversary will be held at the Mir Mosharraf Hossain Memorial Complex in Nababbari Padmadi, Nababpur Union, Baliakandi Upazila, Rajbari.
Mir Mosharraf Hossain was born on November 13, 1847, in his paternal home in Lahinipara on the banks of the Gauri River in Kumarkhali Upazila of Kushtia district. His father’s name was Mir Moazzem Hossain and his mother’s name was Daulatan Nesa. He died on December 19, 1911, at his ancestral home in Padmadi village, Nababpur Union, Baliakandi Upazila, Rajbari. And he was buried in Padmadi. To preserve his memory, a Mir Mosharraf Hossain Memorial Center was built in Padmadi. It is known that the Upazila Administration, Bangla Academy, Mir Mosharraf Hossain Sahitya Parishad, Mir Mosharraf Hossain Degree College and various cultural organizations will organize various programs at Mir’s tomb in Padmadi on Thursday to mark his 178th birth anniversary.
Baliakandi Upazila Executive Officer Chowdhury Mustafizur Rahman said that on the occasion of the 178th birth anniversary of literary emperor Mir Mosharraf Hossain, the Upazila Administration and Bangla Academy will organize a tribute, prayer mahfil and discussion meeting at his tomb. Mir Mosharraf Hossain Degree College, Mir Mosharraf Hossain Sahitya Parishad and various local social and cultural organizations will also hold separate programs around the day.
After the tribute and prayers, Rajbari Deputy Commissioner Sultana Akhter will chair a seminar as the chief guest, and Bangla Academy Secretary (Deputy Secretary) Dr. Md. Selim Reza, will discuss Mir’s biography as special guests, Bangla Academy Director Sameer Kumar Sarkar, Bangla Academy Director Dr. Sarkar Amin. The program includes a tribute to the writer Mir Mosharraf Hossain at 10 am, and a seminar at 11 am.
The seminar will be addressed by Baliakandi Upazila Executive Officer Chowdhury Mustafizur Rahman, essayist Rangpur Begum Rokeya University, Professor of the Department of Bengali and former Dean of the Faculty of Arts Dr. Tuhin Wadud, discussants Mir Mosharraf Hossain Degree College Principal Md. Kamal Hossain Khan, Mir Mosharraf Hossain Degree College Assistant Professor Md. Shahjalal, Rajbari District Mir Mosharraf Hossain Memorial Sangsad President Salam Tasir, Baliakandi Mir Mosharraf Hossain Sahitya Parishad President Munshi Amir Ali and various guests will be present.
It is to be noted that Mir Mosharraf Hossain was an immortal pioneer of Muslim Bengali literature. No Muslim writer before him had made such progress in the field of literature. His works broke the half-century-long inertia of the Muslim society of Bengal and initiated the practice of literature in a modern style and style. His creative works initiated the modern literary trend in the Muslim society of Bengal. He played a leading role in all branches of literature. In this respect, he is a pioneer of Muslim awakening.
His novels “Udasi Pathiker Moner Kotha” (1890), “Gazi Miaar Bastani”, “Zamidar Darpan” (1873), autobiographical works “Amar Jiboni”, “Bibi Kulsum” (1910), “Basant Kumari”, “Chotader Mahanabi”, “Karbala”, “Ratnavati”, “Amar Jiboni Jiboni Bibi Kulsum”, “Sangit Lahari”, “Rachna”, “Maulud Sharif”, “Bibi Khodeja Bihab” and 37 books on religious topics written by him are immortal creations of Bengali literature.
