The police have recovered the body of an unidentified youth from a pond inside the Gazari forest of Purba Madhakla Khaspara village of Sreepur Municipality in Gazipur.
The body was recovered floating from the spot around noon today, Thursday (September 18). Earlier, in the morning, some local children saw the body floating in the pond while collecting leaves.
When news of the body spread, the locals rushed to the spot. Later, a person named Ariful Islam called the National Emergency Service 999 and informed the matter, and the police reached the spot and recovered the body. The police believe that the deceased is approximately 38 years old. He was wearing black pants and a ghee-colored shirt. The excited crowd said that a rotten smell was spreading during the rescue.
Sreepur Police Station Sub-Inspector (SI) Abdul Halim said that after receiving the information, the body was recovered from the scene and sent to the Gazipur Shaheed Tajuddin Ahmed Medical College Hospital morgue for autopsy. It is believed that the body had been lying there for 2-3 days.
Sreepur Police Station Officer-in-Charge (OC) Muhammad Abdul Barik said that the identity of the deceased has not been identified yet. An investigation is underway to ascertain the cause of death. Further legal action will be taken in this incident.
