Debidwar (Comilla) Correspondent:
There has been a recent rise in tension and chaos in the political arena in Debidwar upazila of Comilla. Local political circles and the general public claim that this situation has arisen due to the political stance and statements between NCP leader newcomer Hasnat Abdullah and influential BNP leader Engineer Manjurul Ahsan Munshi.
According to local sources and political analysts, Hasnat Abdullah's recent statements and behavior are heating up the political atmosphere in Debidwar upazila. Several BNP leaders and activists have alleged that his statements show a lack of political decency and tolerance, which is creating confusion and discomfort among BNP leaders and activists at the field level.
Local BNP supporters believe that Hasnat Abdullah is taking a confrontational stance instead of election-oriented politics. According to them, "He has entered the field not to win elections, but to create an atmosphere of political war - this is evident in his statements and actions."
A section of conscious citizens and political circles of Debidwar upazila are complaining that Hasnat Abdullah's main objective may be to create anarchy in the area in a planned manner. This is disrupting peaceful political practices and increasing anxiety among the general public.
In this situation, referring to BNP as a large and responsible political party, demands have been made from the local level that Hasnat Abdullah's nomination be reconsidered in the interest of maintaining party discipline and peace in the area. Many have also demanded that his nomination be canceled.
The people of Debidwar have drawn the attention of the central leaders of the concerned political parties on this issue. They believe that if effective decisions are not taken in time, the upcoming election environment may become even more heated.
No official response has been received from NCP leader Hasnat Abdullah on this issue till the writing of this report.
