A deep shock has descended on the Gopalganj journalist community. Senior journalist Mahbub Hossain Sarmat, who served as the Gopalganj district correspondent of the country’s private television channel NTV, the president of the Gopalganj Television Journalists Association and the Gopalganj correspondent of the daily Amar Desh, is no more.
According to his family sources, he went to his home to rest after offering Asr prayers on Friday. Some time later in the evening, this senior journalist suffered a heart attack while sleeping and left for the country of no return.
The village home of the deceased is in Balakoir village of Gopalganj district. According to family sources, his first funeral prayer will be held at 9 am on Saturday in his village Balakoir and the second and last funeral prayer will be held at the S.K. Alia Madrasa Mosque in Gopalganj city after Zohr.
Journalist Biswajit Chandra Sarkar, general secretary of the Gopalganj district branch of the National Press Society (NPS), has expressed grief over the death of the deceased. He said—
“Journalist Mahbub Hossain Sarmat was a shining star of Gopalganj journalism. His death is an irreparable loss to the journalist community of Gopalganj and the entire country. I pray for the eternal peace of his soul and express my deepest condolences to the bereaved family.”
His family and colleagues have urged religious devotees to attend the funeral prayers and pray for the peace of the deceased’s soul.
