With the slogan ‘Journalism should be free from party slavery’, the National Journalists Forum’s founding anniversary and multimedia committee formation ceremony was held at the Jalpai Restaurant located at Moghbazar intersection in the capital. The grand event, which began at 4 pm on Tuesday (October 7), was attended by prominent figures from the country’s media scene and young journalists.
The event was presided over by poet Mahmudul Hasan Nizami, president of the National Journalists Forum, editor of the Daily Deshjagat and acting editor of the Daily Destiny.
Shariful Islam, multimedia reporter of the Daily Satyakanth, was elected as the convener of the multimedia committee announced at the event.
The People’s GM Rashed, Daily Swadesh Bangla’s multimedia reporter Jabir Ahmed Jihad, and Mizanur Rahman have been appointed as joint conveners.
Besides, Ali Azgar of Talash BD has been appointed as the member secretary,
Shahriar Fahim Shihab and Mehdi Hasan Bappi of Desh Edition have been appointed as joint member secretaries.
The committee members include Abu Bakr, Naeem Khan, Shahriar Fahim Bin Hiron, Abdullah, Ayub Ali, Pradeep Kumar Pal, Imran Hossain Makar, Simon Rahman Riyad, Israfil, Mohammad Khoka, Ashikur Rahman, Solaiman, Sumon, Moniruzzaman and Shimul Howda, among others.
The chief guest of the program, Lieutenant General (Retd.) Chowdhury Hasan Suhrawardy, said, “Today’s slogan is timely and relevant. Journalism becomes the voice of the people only when it is free from party influence. This initiative of the National Journalists’ Forum is a bold step for the journalist community.”
Special guest Major General (Retd.) Abul Kalam said, “Journalism is the mirror of society. This mirror cannot be allowed to be distorted. Journalists must maintain their professional integrity in revealing the truth.”
In his speech as president, Mahmudul Hasan Nizami said, “The slogan we have adopted—‘Journalism should be free from party slavery’—is not just a phrase, it is our commitment. We ourselves have to protect the dignity and impartiality of journalists.”
Multimedia Committee Convener Shariful Islam said, “In the digital age, multimedia journalism is now the center of news presentation. Our goal is to make the information flow more dynamic and reliable.”
Joint Convener Jabir Ahmed Jihad said, “The strength of multimedia journalism is its immediacy and portraying reality. We want the tone of truth and justice to reach the people more strongly through journalism.”
The event was attended by the editor and publisher of the Daily Pratidin Saful, Dr. Syed Humayun Kabir, as the main speaker. The event was inaugurated by the chairman of BBN News, Md. Shafiqur Rahman.
In addition, the main speakers were media personality and motivational speaker Farzana Braunia, and cultural personality Rezabuddaula Chowdhury.
The event was supervised by the organizing secretary of the National Journalists Forum, Mahfuzur Rahman Mamun.
At the end of the meeting, the guests and the newly elected committee members were presented with honorary crests by the National Journalists Forum.
