Lakshmipur Correspondent:
In Ramganj, Lakshmipur, the miscreants have slaughtered a mother and daughter and looted gold ornaments worth about half a crore taka. It has been reported that the miscreants found Julekha Begum (55), the wife of prominent businessman Mizan Kokarij of Sonapur Bazar in Ramganj Upazila, and her college student daughter Tanha Akhter Mim (19) alone at home and slit their throats. At that time, they looted about 30 bhori of gold ornaments and valuables kept in the house.
The incident took place on Thursday, October 9 at 9 pm at the house of Mardi in Uttar Chandipur Srirampur village of Chandipur Union of the upazila.
Farhad Hossain Rabbi, the son of the deceased Julekha Begum, said, I went to the business establishment in Sonapur Bazar with my father like every day. When I returned home from the shop at around 9:30 pm, I saw the main gate of our two-story house open. I quickly entered the room and saw the things stored in the cupboard and scattered around. At that time, I kept shouting and calling my mother and younger sister. But since no one responded, I entered my mother’s room on the east side of the two-story building and saw my mother and sister lying on the floor in a bloody state. They had been hacked and slit by the miscreants. At that time, the people around me rushed to the spot and informed the police station.

Julekha Begum’s husband Mizanur Rahman said that I am demanding that the killers of my wife and daughter be arrested immediately and brought to justice. He said that I am the owner of Sonapur Bazar Mizan Crockery. I have no family or business disputes with anyone.
Julekha Begum’s eldest daughter Rumi Sultana’s husband Golam Mortuza Mamun, the owner of Ramganj Bazar Khadem Fashion, said that I went to the spot quickly after receiving the news. Everything is over for us. The gold ornaments were purchased for the wedding of my wife’s younger brother Farhad Hossain Rabbi and younger sister Tanha Akhter Mim a few days ago. This is the reason for such a big incident, said Golam Mortuza Mamun.
Ramganj Police Station Officer-in-Charge OC Md. Abdul Bari said, I am visiting the spot, although initially the matter was a robbery, the police investigation is underway. The two bodies have been recovered and sent to the hospital morgue for autopsy.
Laxmipur District Police Additional Superintendent of Police (Administration and Finance) Hossain Mohammad Raihan Kazemi confirmed the truth of the incident and said that the bodies of the mother and daughter have been recovered and sent to the Sadar Hospital morgue for autopsy, but the matter is being investigated whether this murder was a robbery or any other reason. The involved will be identified and brought to justice soon.
