Mass procession and leaflet distribution demanding implementation of BNP’s 31-point plan in Kalai

DEX Report:

A mass procession and leaflet distribution program was held in Kalai, Joypurhat, demanding the implementation of the ’31-point outline for repairing the state structure’ announced by the Bangladesh Nationalist Party (BNP). Engineer Golam Mostafa, a member of the party’s national executive committee and former member of parliament from Joypurhat-2 constituency, was the chief guest at the program organized by the upazila and municipal BNP on Sunday afternoon.

Participating in the mass procession, Golam Mostafa said, “Joypurhat is an agricultural area. I always want to see farmers at the center of politics. If the party nominates me in the next election and the people vote and elect me, utmost importance will be given to ensuring that farmers get a fair price for their crops. Initiatives will be taken to establish an agricultural university in Kalai Upazila.”

He further said, “The 31-point program announced by BNP under the leadership of Tarique Rahman is not just an outline of political change, it is a complete state reform plan based on agriculture, industry, education and employment. We want decentralization of power, so that farmers and common people in remote areas get the real benefits of development.”

Golam Mustafa alleged, “During the current government, the prices of agricultural inputs have increased, but farmers are not getting the price of the produced crops. This is trapping families dependent on agriculture in poverty. If BNP comes to power, supportive policies will be adopted for farmers—subsidies for fertilizers, seeds, pesticides and irrigation will be increased.”

More than five thousand leaders and activists of BNP and its affiliates took part in the mass procession. The procession started from Kalai bus stand, circled the main road of the municipality and met at the bus stand premises for a rally.

District BNP member Anisur Rahman Talukder presided over the rally. Advocate Harunur Rashid Harun, Advocate Ruhul Amin Faruk, Abdus Sabur, Mamunur Rashid Sarkar, Taufiqul Islam Master, Mozaffar Hossain Talukder, Iftadul Haque, Rezaul Islam, Nurjahan Happy, Lily Begum and Raisul Alam Ripon, among others, delivered speeches.

The speakers said, “Re-establishing democracy, reviving agriculture and the economy, and restoring voting rights—these are the main goals of the BNP’s 31-point manifesto.”
