The police have arrested three people in connection with the attack on officials and employees of a union land office in Tanore, Rajshahi. They were arrested from their area on Thursday (September 11) afternoon. On Friday (September 12) morning, the police duty officer ASI Md. Mohsin Ali confirmed that the arrested people will be sent to the relevant court through a police escort.
The arrested are - the alleged poet land robber Abul Kalam Azad (56), son of the late Abdul Gafur, vice-president of the local union Awami League and a resident of Chanduria Uparpara village, and his brother Motahar Ali (32). Also, Keramat Ali (45), son of the late Fazlur Rahman of the same area. According to police and local sources, the arrested people forcibly filled up 11 acres of land registered in the government Khas Khatian No. 1 adjacent to the post office of Chanduria UP in the upazila.
On the orders of the UNO, Tanvir Ahmed Sajeeb, Deputy Assistant Land Officer of the Tanor Union Land Office, went to the spot and stopped the attack. Enraged, he attacked the people of the land office and assaulted them, arresting 7/8 unidentified people. Several officials and employees of the land office fled in the incident to save their lives. On the day of the incident, Thursday (September 4), Tanvir Ahmed Sajeeb filed a written complaint with the police station against three named people and 7/8 unidentified people.
Later, on the orders of the UNO, a land survey was conducted on September 9. The survey showed that not only the filled-in area, but also about 14 feet of the two-story building of the land grabber Kalam located on the side of the road was government property. As a result, he was ordered to remove the building within two weeks. In this regard, Tanvir Ahmed Sajeeb, Deputy Assistant Land Officer of Tanor Union Land Office, said, "A survey of the government land shows that not only the land is filled, but also about 14 feet of the two-story building located on the side of the road, the land grabber Kalam Haji has forcibly occupied the government property and built a two-story building there."
As a result, the UNO sir ordered the concerned to remove the building within two weeks. Later, on the night of Wednesday, September 10, a case was registered at the police station and the police arrested them on the afternoon of September 11. In this regard, Afzal Hossain, Officer-in-Charge (OC) of Tanor Police Station, said, "In view of the case, the accused will be arrested and sent to the concerned court through police escort today."
