Kalai Widow Shahana injured in robbery at her home

A gang robbery incident occurred at the house of a widow in Nandail Dighi Lokarpara village of Punat Union of Kalai Upazila of Joypurhat district. The incident occurred on Wednesday (December 17) at around 2 am.

A gang of 10-12 robbers entered the house of Shahana Begum, wife of the deceased Nannu Mia, and looted cash and gold ornaments. When the robbers encountered resistance, they severely beat Shahana Begum and stabbed her with sharp weapons in various parts of her body, seriously injuring her.

It was learned on the spot that the robbers looted about 7 lakh taka in cash and 6 bhori of gold ornaments along with various furniture in the house.

The victim’s family claims that they were able to recognize some of the robbers at the time of the incident. The names of some people named Hehal, Fazlu and Badsha have been mentioned in the complaint in this incident. However, the matter is currently under police investigation.

Shahana Begum’s daughter Nais Akhter said that after August 5, Mozaffar demanded extortion from my mother. He threatened that if the extortion is not paid, she will not survive. The money must be paid secretly so that no one can find out. They planned to rob our house and seriously injured my mother with a sharp weapon (knife). At that time, they looted 7 lakh taka in cash and 6 bhori of gold ornaments.

After the robbery, Shahana Begum was rescued in a seriously injured condition and admitted to Kalai Upazila Health Complex. She is currently undergoing treatment there.

Kalai Police Station OC (Investigation) Dipendranath Singh said that after receiving the information about the incident, the police visited the scene. Legal action will be taken after investigating the complaint.
