Rangpur Correspondent:
If the interim government wants to hold responsible elections without implementing the July Charter and without adjudicating the massacres in the July Movement, then they will first have to face the July fighters and the families of the martyrs. There will be no need for any political party for this. Just as the students and the public brought down the Sheikh Hasina government without a political party in the coup, the July fighters and the families of the martyrs will confront this interim government in the same way.
Sarjis Alam, the chief organizer of the northern region of the National Citizens Party (NCP), expressed doubts about the implementation of the July Charter with the signing of the responsible documents by the political parties.
He made these comments at a press conference after the NCP’s Rangpur District and Metropolitan Coordination Meeting and the NCP’s Rangpur District Member Secretary candidate Engineer Sheikh Rezwan’s joining ceremony held at Hotel Tilottama in Rangpur city on Sunday evening.
Stating that all political parties in the country want a legal basis for the July Charter, Sarjis Alam said that the NCPO also wants a legal basis for it. Although some parties, including BNP, disagreed on some issues, all signed the charter. But he believes that this signing is responsible.
Sarjis Alam also said that the series of arson incidents occurring in important places in the country are part of a conspiracy. There is no opportunity for arson in these places. These are happening under the audio-video instructions of fascists. The interim government must strictly monitor this issue and take initiatives to suppress it. Then people will have confidence in law and order in the next elections.
In response to a question from journalists, he said that there will be no more politics in the name of Awami League or in the boat symbol in this country.
This central leader of the NCP further said that after talking to lawyers, it was learned that the Election Commission has no legal obstacle to giving the “shapla symbol”. Still, excuses are being made. The NCP will participate in the elections with the shapla symbol and is firm on this symbol. Otherwise, the decision will be made on the streets.
Regarding the existence of politics, he said, “The party that led the July movement from the front is NCP. People have seen NCP with their July aspirations.” The press conference was attended by the NCP’s central and Rangpur district and metropolitan leaders.
