On Monday (October 20), the 15th RE Battalion (Riverine Engineer Battalion) of Boalmari Upazila of Faridpur arrested Zakir Sheikh, son of Siddique Sheikh, son of Chatul Gram, Chatul Union of Boalmari. Zakir Sheikh was arrested while selling Yaba from his own house based on a secret tip-off.
Zakir Sheikh had been selling Yaba for a long time. During the raid, 39 pieces of Yaba were found from Zakir Sheikh.
Currently, the people of the village feel that the anarchy of drug trafficking and drug dealing should be stopped in every village of Boalmari Upazila. A case has been filed against the arrested Zakir Sheikh.
The law enforcement agencies said that such criminal activities cause unrest and financial loss in the society. They also called on the people to cooperate in preventing gambling and illegal activities.
Meanwhile, army sources said that the army is working on a ‘zero tolerance’ policy against drugs, illegal weapons, terrorism and extortion. The public has been urged to cooperate with army camps by providing information to eradicate such crimes.
