The field of student politics is gathering day by day around the much-awaited Central Students' Union (CSU) elections at Chittagong University (CU). This is the first CSU election since 1990. After a long 34 years, various organizations and alliances are taking initiatives to form a full-fledged panel one by one to participate in this election. In continuation of this, the students of Pritilata Hall have taken the initiative to form a full-fledged panel called 'Sanghabbadh Mahaji Jote' supported by Bangladesh Islamic Students' Association.
On Monday (September 16), on the last day of distribution of nomination papers, 12 students of the panel collected forms for the Hall Parliament on the second floor of the CSU building. Led by Tarin, Tasnia and Rima, Mizabahul Jannat Tarin, a fourth-year student of the Department of Accounting, will contest for the post of Vice-President (VP) from the panel. Nadia Sultana Tasnia, a second-year student of the Arabic department, will contest for the post of General Secretary (GS) and Afrida Rima, a third-year student of the Geography department, will be contesting for the post of Assistant General Secretary (AGS).
After collecting the nomination papers, Tarin said, “Today, 12 of us have collected the nomination papers. Inshallah, we will announce the decision on the full panel and post distribution within two days.”
At the same time, AGS candidate Rima said, “We have announced the panel under the banner of Bangladesh Islamic Students’ Association. We have various problems like dining problems in our hall, lack of sufficient books in the library, and small prayer rooms. We will work to solve these.”
Meanwhile, Habibur Rahman, a student of Suhrawardy Hall (for the post of Central VP) and Shahjalal Hall student Shahriar Hasan (for the post of Executive Member) submitted their nomination papers yesterday (Sunday).
In addition, several panels have already been announced by various student organizations. The alliance of the Student Union and the Socialist Student Front, 'Droh Parshad', the Student Rights Council's 'Chaksu for Rapid Change', and the Islamic Student Movement-backed 'Conscious Student Parliament'
The CU Chaksu and Hall Parliament elections will be held on October 12 from 9 am to 4 pm. According to the election schedule—submission of nomination papers: September 15–17, verification and selection: September 18, publication of the final candidate list: September 25. The university administration has said that all preparations are being made to ensure transparency and participation in this election, which will be held after a long three decades.
