Nageshwari (Kurigram) Correspondent:
Today, July 17, 2026, at 4:00 PM, a rally and procession was held at the Nageshwari Upazila premises by the Kurigram District Branch of the Mass Solidarity Movement demanding the immediate implementation of the July Charter. Presided over by District Convener Saiful Rahman Dulal, Syed Mohammad Hasan Maruf Rumi, member of the Political Council of the Mass Solidarity Movement, spoke as the chief guest. Rangpur Divisional Organizing Secretary of the Mass Solidarity Movement, Sadiq Reza, Central Member Mofakhkharul Islam Moon, Kurigram Sadar Upazila Convener, Md. Rostam Ali, Nageshwari Upazila Executive Coordinator Md. Saidi Hossain and various upazila leaders spoke. The rally was moderated by the Kurigram District Convener of the Students Federation, student leader Md. Sohel Rana.
In his speech as the chief guest, Hasan Maruf Rumi said, "Authoritarian and fascist rule must be ended in Bangladesh by implementing the July Charter. Just as the fallen Awami League established fascism in this country by denying the people's struggle and establishing ownership over the Liberation War, a self-serving group is currently trying to pave the way for the rise of fascist and authoritarian forces by claiming sole ownership over the July Uprising, which was a joint uprising of students and workers. The people must unite to confront these two tendencies and take Bangladesh forward on the path of democratic transformation." Central Education and Cultural Affairs Secretary Deepak Kumar Roy said that just as the Liberation War is an achievement of Bangladesh, the mass uprising of 24 is our achievement. To make this achievement successful, the main aspiration of this uprising is to implement reforms. Only if we can bring about democratic transformation in Bangladesh, will we truly pay tribute to the martyrs of the mass uprising.
Central member Mofakhkharul Islam Moon said that Bangladesh will have to fulfill its historical responsibility by holding Jamaat and Awami League to account as parties for taking a position contrary to the aspirations of the people in the Liberation War of 1971 or the mass uprising of 24.
In his speech as president, Saifur Rahman Dulal said that the implementation of the July Charter is our political commitment. If there is a minimum excuse for these reforms, we will unite the people and fight to the end. He called on the government to develop agro-based industries in agriculture-based Kurigram.
