Panchbibi (Joypurhat) Correspondent:
A human chain and protest rally was held in Panchbibi, Joypurhat, in protest of the news of a loss of about 10,000 crore taka due to illegal recruitment and unskilled workers in the country's largest private Islamic bank. The Islami Bank Customer Forum and the Anti-Discrimination Job Seekers Council held this program at Panchbibi Tin Matha intersection on Saturday (October 6) at 10 am.
According to UNB sources, more than 8,000 semi-educated and unskilled workers were recruited without any examination or notification by the S Alam Group-affiliated management of Islami Bank in the last seven years. Due to this recruitment, the bank is facing a loss of about 1,500 crore taka every year, which has stood at 10,000 crore taka in seven years.
In this context, the speakers at Saturday's human chain demanded that the illegal recruitment in the country's banking sector, including Islami Bank, be immediately canceled and that qualifications and merit-based recruitment be ensured.
Abul Bashar, Dr. Mosharraf Hossain, Shamis Sardar, Suhel Hossain, Tajul Islam, prominent businessman Harunur Rashid, etc. spoke at the human chain.
The speakers said that the banking sector is on the verge of collapse due to semi-educated and politically influenced employees. We want appointments to be made in the country's banks on the basis of merit and competence, so that the people's deposits are safe.
They also demanded that all illegal appointments made by S Alam from 2017 to 2024 should be canceled. Skilled and qualified officers should be appointed from all regions of the country through merit verification. The government should take initiatives to protect the interests of customers by bringing back the laundered money. Legal action should be taken against those who spread misinformation and tarnish the image of the bank. Otherwise, they warned that the Anti-Discrimination Job Seekers Council will take to the streets to demand their demands through strict agitation in the future.
