Rajshahi: Farmers' crops have been extensively damaged due to three consecutive days of rain and stormy winds in different areas of Durgapur Upazila. Durgapur Upazila Agriculture Officer Sahana Parvin Laboni inspected the affected areas. All the officials of the Durgapur Upazila Agriculture Broadcasting Department are also advising, and they are looking at all the losses of the farmers in the field.
On the ground, it was seen that due to untimely overnight rain and stormy winds in different areas of the upazila, the planted Aman paddy, paanbarj, and onion fields have been extensively damaged. One and a half thousand chickens have drowned in rainwater in poultry farms. Meanwhile, two-thirds of the paanbarj have been destroyed in the rain and storm.
Many affected farmers said, if the government pays a little attention to us, we will be able to compensate for this loss and become self-sufficient, and if the government does not show sympathy for us and does not reduce the prices of fertilizers, seeds and medicines, then we will be further affected, we strongly demand that the government pay a little attention to us.
In this regard, Durgapur Upazila Agriculture Officer Sahana Parveen Labani said, 6% (about 30 hectares) of the total paddy land has been affected, 20 hectares of vegetables and about 5 hectares of betel leaves have been affected, in addition, various officials of the Upazila Agriculture Office are providing necessary advice to farmers at the field level.
