Kamruzzaman Chowdhury, Secretary of the Ministry of Health and Family Welfare, has warned that any kind of negligence, irregularities or poor quality of food in healthcare will not be tolerated. He said that the government's commitment is to ensure accessible, improved and quality healthcare for the people. To implement this goal, every officer and employee of the health department will have to perform their duties with sincerity, honesty and humanity.
He said these things while visiting the Kalai Upazila Health Complex in Joypurhat on Friday (June 19) afternoon.
During the visit, the Health Secretary visited the emergency department, outpatient department, various wards and other service activities of the hospital. During this time, he spoke to the patients who came for treatment and inquired about their medical services, receipt of medicines and the hospital environment.
Later, in a meeting with the doctors, nurses and concerned officials of the hospital, the Health Secretary said that the government has taken the initiative to upgrade all the upazila health complexes of the country to 100 beds in stages so that every person in the country gets modern and quality healthcare at their doorstep. As part of this program, the Directorate General of Health Services will inspect all the upazila health complexes of the country in stages and regularly evaluate the quality of services.
He also said that the current government is working with the health sector as the highest priority. Continuous activities are being implemented to develop the infrastructure of district and upazila hospitals, increase the number of beds, provide modern medical equipment, recruit doctors and manpower and improve the quality of services. However, to further increase the trust of the people in government hospitals, there is no alternative to ensuring patient-friendly, accountable and quality services.
