The police have arrested Faridpur District Awami League Acting President Md. Faruk Hossain (72). Kotwali Police arrested him from Jhiltuli area of Faridpur city on Monday (November 10) evening.
Faridpur Additional Superintendent of Police (Administration and Finance) Shamsul Azam confirmed the arrest to reporters at around 6:30 pm. He said that he was arrested from a flat adjacent to the Diabetes Hospital in Jhiltuli area of the city at around 6:30 pm.
It is learned that Md. Faruk Hossain was the president of the district Awami League. District Awami League President Shamim Haque has been staying in the United States since August 5 last year. In view of this, he himself posted on Facebook that Faruk Hossain was recently given the responsibility of acting president of the district Awami League.
Later, on October 28, Shamim Haque posted on his Facebook ID. He mentioned to him, "We will all work unitedly under the leadership of whoever my leader gives the responsibility. In this difficult time of the party, we are all the presidents, we will all work for the party, but it has not been possible to know anything about this responsibility from party sources."
According to Kotwali police station sources, there are two cases in the name of Md. Faruk Hossain in the Kotwali police station under the Explosive Substances Act and the attack on the Anti-Discrimination Student Movement. In this, the police filed a case as the plaintiff under the Explosive Substances Act.
Kotwali police station Inspector (Investigation) Md. Abdullah Biswas told reporters that he was arrested in the evening. There are two cases in the police station against him. The matter of arrest in two cases is under process.
