A colorful anti-drug rally and march was held in Belkuchi Upazila of Sirajganj with the theme “Be aware of drugs, save generations, save lives.”
On Saturday at 10 am, various programs were held at the D. S. A High School grounds in Shahpur, Belkuchi, in the presence of more than two hundred people, including students, political leaders, and doctors.
Organized by the student organization ‘Bunon’, the rally was presided over by the organization’s president, Iqbal H. Ripon.
The speakers were Abdul Mannan Sarkar, former joint convener of Belkuchi Upazila BNP and principal of Model Degree College, Jamaat-e-Islami Upazila Secretary Professor Mazharul Islam, ENT specialist Dr. Ali Aftab Surya, Banik Barta journalist Anisur Rahman, student representative Musa Hasemi, Md. Musabbir Hossain and leaders of various political and social organizations.
The speakers highlighted the terrible ill effects of drugs and called for awareness among the society. Dr. Ali Aftab Surya said that drugs are a kind of social cancer, which everyone must unite to eradicate.
Anisur Rahman said in his speech that just holding a rally is not enough, anti-drug committees should be formed in villages and drug dealers should be socially boycotted.
Abdul Mannan Sarkar welcomed the initiative of the students and assured them of maximum cooperation.
Professor Mazharul Islam said that their party will work to enact anti-drug laws and will also take initiatives to ban bidi-cigarettes as the root of drugs.
Representatives of various villages of the upazila and municipality spoke at the rally. Local organizations including Pipilika Jubo Sangha, Shahpur Blood Donor Union, Jubo Unnayan O Samaj Kalyan Foundation, Rakta Sena, Seventeen Youth Associations and others cooperated in this event.
After the rally, an anti-drug march took out and circled various important roads.
The organizers expressed hope that such programs will have a positive impact on society and the youth will be protected from the scourge of drugs.
