Caesarean section patient dies after wrong blood transfusion in Kaliakoir

A cesarean patient has died after being given the wrong blood transfusion at Rumaisa Hospital in Kaliakoir, Gazipur. The incident took place on Sunday (October 19) night in the Chapair area of ​​the upazila.

The deceased’s name is Khadija Akhter (25). She is the wife of Abir Hossain, son of Jamir Hossain of Chapair village. The family alleges that Khadija was admitted to Rumaisa Hospital with labor pains on Saturday night. The doctor decided to perform a cesarean section operation. However, when her condition deteriorated after the operation, her relatives claimed that she was given the wrong blood transfusion. Khadija later died while undergoing treatment.

The husband and mother of the deceased have accused the hospital authorities of wrong treatment and negligence. They allege that Khadija died due to mismanagement of the hospital and incompetence of the doctor. They have demanded a proper investigation into the incident and exemplary punishment for the culprits.

The patient’s husband Abir Hossain expressed his interest in informing the media about the details of the incident over the phone at around 3:45 am. Later, the journalists went to the spot and interviewed the mother of the deceased, but it was not possible to get her statement as her husband’s physical condition had deteriorated.

Although attempts were made to contact Rumaisa Hospital Manager Tuhin several times, he did not respond.

Kaliakair Upazila Health and Family Planning Officer Dr. Sadia Tasnim Munmun said, “We have formed a three-member investigation committee after being informed about the incident. The committee members will submit a report within the next three working days. After that, necessary legal action will be taken along with the UNO.”

Kaliakair Upazila Nirbahi Officer Kausar Ahmed said, “We are aware of the matter. We will quickly investigate whether the hospital has approval. If the necessary documents are not available, the hospital will be sealed.”
