BNP’s nomination contest in Chapainawabganj-2 constituency

Chapainawabganj Correspondent:

Ahead of the upcoming parliamentary elections, the race of BNP candidates for the Chapainawabganj-2 constituency is now a topic of discussion in the entire area. At least 14 candidates have taken to the field to distribute leaflets and engage in grassroots public relations to implement the party’s 31-point agenda. The entire area seems to be in the mood of an election festival.

However, the focus of discussion in this nomination race is the candidates’ family ties. Multiple members of the same family are contesting for the post of MP.

The list of candidates includes Alhaj Aminul Islam and his brother’s wife Suchi, Alhaj Moazzem Hossain and his brother Engineer Imdadul Haque Masud, Asadullah Ahmed and his brother Enayet Karim Touki, Advocate Nurul Islam Sentu and his son Engineer M Ferdous Islam, and the candidates include Abdus Salam Tuhin, Ashraf Hossain Alim, Tariq Ahmed, Syeda Ashrafi Papia, Dr. SA Apu, Ataur Rahman and many others.

Voter Reaction and Public Opinion A section of local voters feel that a fair and competitive election is going to be held in this constituency after a long time. Voters hope that with the participation of all parties, they will be able to vote freely this time.

However, many are worried – how will BNP finalize one out of 14 candidates in just a few days? The main topic of discussion now is who will get the party symbol. A voter commented, “Whoever the candidate is, the party symbol will ultimately determine who will be the new MP for Chapainawabganj-2.”

The number of candidates in Chapainawabganj-2 is unprecedented compared to the number of voters. Such a contest is rare after the second independence. On the one hand, there is a possibility of becoming an MP with a small number of votes, on the other hand, many candidates may suffer financial losses due to expensive campaigns.

It is important to see now—why so many candidates have entered the field, who will ultimately get the party symbol, and in whose hands the people will trust in the election.
