Local farmers have succeeded in cultivating early varieties of cauliflower for the first time in Prannagar village of Sator union in Birganj upazila of Dinajpur. This year, they have cultivated new varieties Ratna, Early Special and Summer White and the yield has also been as expected.
This new variety of cauliflower has been cultivated on 85 hectares of land in Birganj upazila. Farmer Md. Farid said that he became interested in cultivation after watching videos related to new varieties of cauliflower on YouTube. Then he contacted the Birganj Upazila Department of Agricultural Extension and started cultivating with various types of cooperation by collecting seeds.
He said, no chemical fertilizers or pesticides were used in the field, only organic fertilizers were used to plant the seedlings. Flowers started appearing on the plants within 70-75 days. Currently, we have started selling these copies in the market.
Birganj Upazila Agriculture Officer, Agronomist Md. Shariful Islam said that early variety cauliflower is a vegetable with medicinal properties and tastes much better than ordinary cauliflower. With the help of the Sustainable Agriculture Development Project, cauliflower cultivation has been expanded to 85 hectares of land in Birganj. Cauliflower has been directly demonstrated and helped to the demonstration farmers.
He also said that if cauliflower cultivation is expanded, farmers will undoubtedly benefit. Many more people will cultivate early variety cauliflower next year. Officials of the Dinajpur District Agricultural Extension Department regularly visit.
