Thakurgaon Correspondent:
BNP Secretary General Mirza Fakhrul Islam Alamgir has said that the friendship and mutual cooperation between Bangladesh and Nepal will be further strengthened in the coming days. He said that the joint initiatives of the two countries are not only setting a new example in diplomatic relations but also in humanitarian services.
He said these things while addressing the inaugural ceremony of the 'Free Eye Camp-2026' organized by the Thakurgaon Diabetic Association and jointly initiated by Bangladesh and Nepal at 11:30 am on Sunday (August 2) as the chief guest.
Mirza Fakhrul said that the hard work and talent of the people of the country, including Thakurgaon, are the great strength of Bangladesh's development. He mentioned that since Nepal is geographically close to Bangladesh, there is an opportunity to expand various humanitarian and developmental activities between the two countries. Initiatives like free eye treatment for the poor people of the border and remote areas are very timely. He also expressed hope that such healthcare services will be expanded further in the future.
Organized under the theme âSight for All, Care for Every Eyeâ, the eye camp provided free eye examinations, specialist medical advice and necessary diagnostic services to patients.
The event was graced by the presence of special guests including Deputy Chief of Mission of the Embassy of Nepal in Bangladesh Pratik Karki, Chairman of NNJS Prof. Dr. Chet Raj Pant, Chairman of Biratnagar Eye Hospital Padma Narayan Chowdhury and Member of Parliament of Thakurgaon-3 Jahidul Islam. The event was presided over by President of Thakurgaon Diabetic Association Dr. Abu Md. Khairul Kabir.
According to the organizers, the main objective of this initiative is to quickly identify eye diseases among the common people, provide necessary medical advice and provide free eye services to the poor and underprivileged.
The speakers at the event said that eyesight is an invaluable asset for a healthy life. Regular eye examinations and awareness raising can prevent many complex eye diseases. Therefore, such public welfare initiatives will play an important role in bringing healthcare closer to the common people.
The day-long free eye camp was attended by doctors, social workers, representatives of various organizations, local dignitaries and a large number of patients. Hundreds of people benefited from free eye examinations and medical consultations.
