In Tamta village of Ramganj Municipality in Ramganj Upazila of Lakshmipur, a brother-in-law named Masud Alam (35) attempted to kill his sister-in-law named Irene Sultana (34) over a property dispute. The incident took place at the house of Roushan Ali Patwari of Tamta village on Thursday (November 13) afternoon over a property dispute. When Irene was rescued in a life-threatening condition and brought to Ramganj Government Hospital, the doctor on duty gave her primary treatment and referred her to Dhaka Pangu Hospital. Angry locals arrested Masud and handed her over to the police.
Locals said that on Thursday afternoon, when he found her alone in her house, Masud grabbed a sharp weapon and attacked Irene with it and started slashing her. During this, various parts of her body were injured and bleeding. Several toes were severed. Later, when Masud tried to slaughter his wife Irene, the people around him came running after hearing her screams, and Masud fled.
Later, at approximately 2 pm, the angry locals arrested Masud from the bypass road of Ramganj city and handed him over to the police. Local sources said that Irene’s expatriate husband Md. Faruk Hossain and his younger brother Masud Alam were having a dispute over property.
Locals told reporters that this incident happened because of this. Ramganj Police Station Officer-in-Charge Md. Abdul Bari said that the police have arrested the accused Masud who attempted to kill him and he has been handed over to the court.
