Sunamganj Correspondent:
The formation of two separate press clubs without valid and effective members in Jamalganj Upazila has created widespread confusion and questions among the general public. The existence of multiple press clubs has created new concerns about the ethics and transparency of journalism.
According to local sources, the activities of two press clubs in the same upazila have become unclear and confusing to the general public. It is not clear who is running these press clubs, what their membership and legitimacy are. As a result, conscious circles believe that the issue of real journalism and responsible news reporting is being affected.
This situation has become more complicated when it is seen that various questions are being raised about the role of local political and influential circles. On the upcoming great Victory Day, at the Jamalganj Upazila Central Shaheed Minar, under the banner of the press club led by journalist Abdullah Al Mamun, former convener of the Upazila Awami Krishak League Ali Amjad, Upazila Jubo League leader Mohsin Kabir, masked man Abdur Rob and businessman Ripon Talukder were seen paying tribute at the Shaheed Minar. However, no clear position or explanation has been found from the concerned parties on this issue yet, and a kind of mixed and mysterious silent response from the upazila administration is being seen.
The complaints of the common people, the silence of the administration and political forces are further fueling this confusion. This raises questions in the public mind - is this dual press club culture a strategy to control or influence independent journalism, or is it part of some other vested interest plan?
Local conscious citizens believe that it is important to ensure transparency, legitimacy and professionalism in an important institution like the press club. Otherwise, it may undermine the sanctity of journalism and become a means of misleading the general public.
Locals believe that it is the demand of the hour for the concerned administration and political leaders to make a clear statement and take responsible steps in this regard.
