Tomorrow is a public holiday, three days of state mourning

The government has declared three days of state mourning from Wednesday to Friday (December 31 and January 1 and 2) following the death of BNP Chairperson and former Prime Minister Khaleda Zia.

In addition, there will be a general holiday across the country on Wednesday (December 31). This was announced by Chief Advisor Dr. Muhammad Yunus in his address to the nation at 12 noon today. Former Prime Minister and BNP Chairperson Khaleda Zia has passed away (Inna Lillahi wa Inna Ilaihi Rajiun).

She breathed her last at Evercare Hospital at 6 am on Tuesday (December 30). She was 80 years old at the time of her death. The Chief Advisor said, ‘Begum Khaleda Zia was an absolutely glorious figure in Bangladeshi politics.

Her outstanding role in the struggle to establish democracy, multi-party political culture and people’s rights will remain in history. His uncompromising leadership against tyranny and fascism has repeatedly shown the nation the way out of undemocratic situations and has inspired liberation. The nation will forever remember his brilliant contribution to the country and the nation with respect.’

He also said, ‘I have declared three days of state mourning on the death of former Prime Minister Begum Khaleda Zia and a one-day general holiday on the day of her funeral prayer tomorrow.

I humbly appeal to everyone to maintain discipline in all forms of mourning, including the funeral prayer.
