Former Prime Minister of Bangladesh and BNP Chairperson Begum Khaleda Zia has passed away (Inna-Lillahi wa Inna Ilaihi Rajiun).
She breathed her last while undergoing treatment at Evercare Hospital in the capital today (December 30) at 6:00 am. A post on the Facebook page of the BNP Media Cell confirmed Khaleda Zia’s death. Her death has cast a shadow of deep sorrow over the political arena.
The end of a long struggle, the 80-year-old former Prime Minister had been suffering from various old-age and physical complications for a long time. Doctors said that she was suffering from various complications including heart disease, diabetes, arthritis, liver cirrhosis and kidney problems.
She was rushed to Evercare Hospital on November 23 after suddenly experiencing breathing difficulties.

Before her death, Begum Khaleda Zia’s physical condition was very critical.
On Monday (December 29), 25 AD, after 2:00 am, her personal physician and BNP Standing Committee member Professor Dr. AZM Zahid Hossain, while briefing reporters in front of the hospital, said, “Begum Zia is going through a very critical period.”
The medical board informed that although all preparations were made to take her abroad for advanced treatment, it was not possible to send her out of the country as her physical condition was very delicate and ‘unfit’. Her final treatment was being carried out under the supervision of a board consisting of local and foreign expert doctors.
Begum Khaleda Zia was born in: 1945.
Political career: After the death of her husband (martyred President Ziaur Rahman), she took over the BNP and served as the Prime Minister of Bangladesh three times. Prison life: He was sentenced to a long prison term in a corruption case since 2018 and was later conditionally released by the government’s executive order and was staying at his Gulshan residence ‘Firoza’ and the hospital.
BNP has informed that the funeral of the deceased will be held tomorrow after Zuhr prayers. It is said that the deceased will be buried next to the grave of martyred President Ziaur Rahman. BNP is preparing for a nationwide mourning program for the death of the party chief.
