Jamaat Shibir leaders and activists are becoming increasingly violent. There are frequent allegations of horrific torture of people outside their views. Recently, such a sensational incident has arisen in Chapainawabganj.
A young man named Abu Sufian Siju (25) was tied to an electric pole for about an hour and a half without receiving any money for his extortion. He was severely beaten and even tried to cut off both his hands and legs. At one point, thinking that Siju was dead, the Jamaat Shibir cadres left him tied up with a rope and left. The incident took place on the evening of December 24 at Umarpur Ghat in Shibganj Upazila. The young man is currently undergoing treatment at Rajshahi Medical College Hospital.
The injured young man, Abu Sufian Siju (25), is the son of Rabiul Islam of Shyampur-Bajitpur village.
Eyewitnesses and local sources said that some Jamaat-Shibir activists caught Siju and tied him to an electric pole and started slashing his hands and feet with sharp weapons. He was definitely killed by blows to several parts of his body. Even though the locals saw such a scene from a distance, they did not have the courage to protest.
Later, when they left him, thinking him dead, the locals rescued him in a seriously injured state and admitted him to the Shibganj Upazila Health Complex. After receiving primary treatment, his condition became critical and he was sent to Rajshahi Medical College Hospital for advanced treatment. He is currently undergoing treatment there.
While undergoing treatment at the hospital, Siju complained that the Jamaat-Shibir activists had systematically tied him to an electric pole and slashed him for one and a half hours. He claimed that Abdur Razzak, a poison shopkeeper, Anwar of Saratnagar village and Noor, brother of poultry trader Abu Sayeed of Chama Bazar, and a few others were involved.
Shibganj Police Station OC Humayun Kabir said that a case has been filed with the police station in this regard. Police have arrested two Jamaat-Shibir activists in a raid. The operation to arrest the other accused is ongoing.
