Army’s help needed to make elections festive Chief Advisor Dr. Muhammad Yunus

Dhaka Correspondent:

Chief Advisor Professor Dr. Muhammad Yunus has said that the cooperation of the army is very important to make the upcoming 13th National Parliament elections peaceful, festive and joyful. He said, “I sincerely seek the support of our army to hold this long-awaited election in a truly peaceful and joyful atmosphere.”

He expressed this opinion as the chief guest at the Course-2025 Graduation Certificate Distribution Ceremony held at the Defense Service Command and Staff College (DSCSC) Auditorium in Mirpur Cantonment on Wednesday (November 19) afternoon.

311 young military officers from 24 countries of the world including Bangladesh received their graduation certificates at the ceremony. Representatives from various countries including China, India, Pakistan, and Turkey participated in this international military course.

The chief advisor presented the certificates to the participating young officers and expressed hope for their important role in the future.

Dr. Muhammad Yunus particularly praised the role of the army in the historic popular uprising that took place in July. He said—

“The army took the right decision at the right time. Their firm stance at the critical moment of the country saved the nation from danger. I highly appreciate their role.”

He believes that the army will play a very responsible role in the country’s democratic progress and the upcoming national elections.

A Bangladeshi military officer who participated in the course said—“The knowledge we have acquired in DSCSC about leadership, military strategy and international cooperation will prepare us to face any challenge inside and outside the country. We are ready to apply the knowledge we have acquired, especially in national crises.”

Another officer said—“The statement of the chief advisor is very timely. We are committed to playing the highest role in protecting the country and fulfilling important national responsibilities.”

A Chinese participant said, “This military training institute in Bangladesh is conducting courses in line with international standards. The opportunity to work with colleagues from 23 countries has further strengthened our mutual relations. This knowledge will play an important role in protecting the security of our country in the future.”

The statement of the Chief Advisor is clear—the participation and support of the army is essential to make the upcoming 13th national election a peaceful, fear-free and democratic festival. Ensuring security will be the main challenge to overcome the national political situation and the long-standing voter aversion.
