The Election Commission (EC) has informed that 8 registered political parties are not participating in the upcoming 13th National Assembly elections. According to the EC, a total of 51 political party candidates have submitted their nomination papers for the parliamentary polls.

For this purpose, a total of 2,570 candidates from political parties and independents have filed nomination papers. And the candidates collected 3 thousand 307 nomination papers. Although 24 hours have passed since the submission of nomination papers, the Election Commission could not inform about the fact that some parties have submitted their nominations.
According to the EC's calculations, the number of political parties currently registered with the Election Commission is 59. The registration of Bangladesh Awami League has been suspended. Besides, the registration of PDP, Freedom Party and United Citizen Movement has been cancelled.
As per the schedule, nomination papers will be selected from 30 December to 4 January 2026. Appeals against the decision of the Returning Officer are filed from January 5 to January 9. The appeal will be settled between January 10 and 18.
Last date for withdrawal of candidature is January 20. The Returning Officer will release the final candidate list and allot the symbols on January 21. The election campaign will begin on January 22. The campaign can be run until 7:30 am on February 10. And the vote will be taken on February 12.
