7 leaders and activists of Awami League and its affiliated organizations arrested in raids in the capital

The Detective Branch (DB) of the Dhaka Metropolitan Police (DMP) has arrested seven more leaders and activists of the banned Awami League and its affiliated organizations on charges of holding flash marches and destabilizing the law and order situation in different areas of the capital. Four of them were arrested from the flash march held in Bangla Motor area on Friday (September 12) night and the remaining three in separate operations.

Deputy Commissioner (DC) of the Media and Public Relations Department of the DMP confirmed the matter on Saturday (September 13) morning.

The arrested are: Awami League’s Agriculture and Cooperatives Central Sub-Committee member Roman Ahmed (32), Awami League’s former Information and Research Sub-Committee’s Science and Technology Affairs Secretary and former Chhatra League Central Committee executive member Sanjeeb Islam Afendi (35), Kishoreganj district’s Bajitpur Upazila Chhatra League member Nabed Ahmed Naba (25), Kishoreganj district’s Itna Thana Chhatra League leader Md. Mizanur Rahman (40), Awami League’s Central Sub-Committee’s Relief and Social Welfare Secretary Zakir Hossain (55), Tejgaon Thana Jubo League’s Ward No. 26 Health Affairs Secretary Md. Jasim Uddin (40), Awami League’s Bangshal Thana Ward No. 33 Organizing Secretary Md. Sanakat (38)

DC Talebur Rahman said that on Friday (September 12) at around 11:55 pm, a team from DB-Tejgaon division carried out a series of raids and arrested Roman Ahmed, Sanjeeb Islam Afendi, Nabed Ahmed Nab and Md. Mizanur Rahman.

On the same day, around 6 pm, a team from DB-Ramna division carried out a raid in Hazaribagh police station area and arrested Zakir Hossain. At 10:45 pm, the DB-Wari division carried out a raid in Bansherpul area of ​​Demra and arrested Jasim Uddin. In addition, the DB-Lalbagh division carried out a raid in Bangshal police station area at around 1:45 am last night and arrested Sanakat.

DC Talebur Rahman said, “There are multiple cases against the arrested people in different police stations. They were trying to destabilize the country by organizing and destroying law and order. They were also trying to create panic in the public by holding sudden processions in different parts of the capital.”

He added that legal action is in the process of being taken against the arrested people.
