Chapainawabganj Correspondent:
A complaint has been filed against Mahananda 59 BGB Battalion for stealing 8 lakh taka and two mobile phones from the bag of Alamgir Kabir Sifti, General Secretary of the Chapainawabganj District Branch of the People's Rights Council. Even the commander of the 59 BGB Battalion, Lieutenant Colonel Golam Kibria, has been accused of calling this leader to the battalion camp, intimidating him and threatening him with a case. Public Rights Council leader Alamgir Kabir Sifti held a press conference raising these allegations.
He held this press conference at the Chapainawabganj District Press Club auditorium on Saturday (September 27) afternoon.
At the press conference, Alamgir Kabir Sifti said, I had sold a land the previous day. On the day of the incident (Thursday), I was going to pay off a debt and deposit the remaining 8 lakh taka in the bag in the bank. On the way, 4 BGB members stopped my motorcycle in front of the Kansat Rural Electricity Office. At that time, they asked what was in the bag and took it from me. After that, the BGB members fled on two motorcycles with the bag.
He also said, after following them for some distance, I returned. As soon as I arrived, I narrated the incident on Facebook Live. There were two mobile phones in my bag and inside the bag there were 8 lakh taka wrapped in 8 bundles of tissue bags. Later, I filed a written complaint with Shibganj Police Station regarding this incident. I hope I will get justice for this. The BGB has done injustice to me.
Ganaodhikar Parishad leader Alamgir said, on the day of the incident, the commander of the 59th BGB battalion called me to the camp and pressured me to delete the Facebook live post after the incident. He even offered to give me 24 Indian mobile phones on the condition of not filing a complaint of 8 lakh taka. He also offered to give my child the opportunity to study for 10 years free of charge in a BGB-run school. But when I did not agree to that and demanded money, BGB CO Golam Kibria intimidated and threatened me.
He further said, I am currently suffering from panic and insecurity due to holding a press conference against these misdeeds of the BGB. At any time, a DB can take me away and frame me with a fabricated case like Harun. I am demanding the safety of me and my family from the state.
Alamgir Kabir said, Golam Kibria, the corrupt CO of 59 BGB, blessed by the Indian Border Security Force-BSF, has been in the same workplace for a long time, violating the rules. The border residents have been in unrest since he joined here. At different times, innocent students and young men are forcibly brought back and framed with false and fabricated cases showing huge quantities of drugs and weapons.
Alamin Ali, the acting president of the district branch of the People's Rights Council, who was present at the press conference, said, we have filed a complaint against these misdeeds of the BGB at the police station. Despite repeatedly filing complaints with the BGB CO and camp commander, nothing has been done. I will file a complaint with the BGB Director General and the Advisor to the Ministry of Home Affairs regarding this. If necessary, we will launch a strong movement against the corrupt BGB officer Golam Kibria.
He also said that despite showing off a large amount of drugs, heroin, phensedyl and foreign weapons for his own promotion, he released the criminals in exchange for a large sum of money. Although the identified drug dealers on the border continued their activities without hindrance, no action was taken by him. Even on August 5, 2024 and later, Lieutenant Colonel Golam Kibria, the commander of the 59 BGB battalion, sheltered various ministers and MPs of the autocratic AL in the battalion camp. It is known that this BGB officer allowed many of them to cross the border and enter India in exchange for a large sum of money.
The president of the Student Rights Council, Alamgir Kabir Shifti's wife, family members and leaders and activists of various levels of the People's Rights Council were present at the press conference.
Lieutenant Colonel Golam Kibria, the commander of the 59 BGB, denied all the allegations. He said on his mobile phone that Alamgir Kabir's allegation is completely false, fabricated and baseless. The press conference was organized with the intention of tarnishing the image of the BGB. On Thursday, during a regular search operation, he fled after leaving his bag with the BGB members. Later, 24 illegal Indian mobile phones were recovered after searching his bag in public and handed over to Shibganj Police Station after taking necessary legal action.
Conscious citizens and relatives of the victim's family present at the press conference demanded that such a corrupt official in an important place like the border should be removed immediately. Because Lieutenant Colonel Golam Kibri is directly behind the import of a large amount of weapons and drugs through the Chapainawabganj border. Conscious citizens demand that this friend of tyranny be immediately withdrawn and dismissed and brought under the law.
