Strict security measures have been tightened in the Uttara area after a fire broke out at the capital's Hazrat Shahjalal International Airport. As part of the security, only authorized card holders are being allowed to enter. No one else is being allowed to enter the area, confirmed Dhaka Metropolitan Police (DMP) Uttara Division Deputy Commissioner (DC) Md. Mohidul Islam.
He told the media on Saturday (October 18) evening that a large number of police personnel have been deployed to control the situation in the fire incident and to avoid any kind of unwanted situation. Currently, more than 5,000 police personnel are on duty at important points in Uttara and its surroundings.
DC Mohidul Islam said, "For the sake of security, the entry of the general public to the areas adjacent to the airport has been restricted. Only card-holding officers, employees and authorized vehicles will be allowed to enter. This system will remain in place until the situation is completely under control."
Meanwhile, several units of the fire service tried for a long time to bring the fire under control in the event of the fire. The cause of the fire and the extent of the damage are yet to be confirmed, but fire service officials said an investigation has been launched.
Following the incident, there was temporary panic among passengers and the general public inside the airport. However, the situation is now on the verge of normalization, according to the concerned authorities.
